Hidden away until recently, Riddle’s Court is a beautiful and atmospheric 16th century building offering a unique venue for exceptional events and spectacular entertaining. It is a historic jewel in Edinburgh’s Old Town that was recently restored and now offers endless opportunities for special events.
Riddle’s Court offers a rich and colourful canvas for extraordinary events in a truly adaptable setting. Set within a quiet courtyard between the bustling areas of the Royal Mile and Victoria Street, the venue has easy access to the centre of Edinburgh.
Built in the 1590s, Riddle’s Court is a picturesque Category A-listed merchant’s house full of authentic period features and genuine charm – exquisite painted and plastered ceilings, working fireplaces and panelled rooms. It has been painstakingly repaired by skilled craftsmen without compromising the integrity of the original building.
New contemporary interventions have transformed its atmospheric historic spaces into a state-of-the-art venue with full lift access. The newly-refurbished historic rooms are available for weddings, meetings and conferences, arts and festival uses, talks and workshops, visits and tours, craft and food markets, striking photo shoots and for unforgettable parties and private dining.
Riddle’s Court can offer intimate, historic spaces as well as larger, open rooms with the potential to adapt to any event. The atmospheric Geddes and Seton rooms provide irresistible backdrops complete with elaborate ceilings, window seating booths and wood panel effect walls. The generous, bright Library room is a more open, grand space with large windows, crystal chandeliers and fully integrated AV, ideal for conferences of up to 100 people.
Enjoy a taste of history by celebrating in a building which across the years has hosted kings, and queens, dukes and philosophers, writers and actors, and many others from Edinburgh’s rich and colourful past.
