In a whirlwind first year as business development manager at Assembly Rooms Edinburgh, Katy Heney has welcomed a host of glittering high profile events through the venue’s doors.
From summits to weddings and poker to charity galas, Katy has risen to every challenge her job has thrown at her. She has master-minded such high profile events as the prestigious Doosan Global Business Forum, attended by business and political leaders including former US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, and the UK International Poker Tour which brought writer and professional poker player, Victoria Coren, to the capital.
Katy is well-known in tourism circles. Her experience – gained both in the UK and abroad – encompasses catering, operations, event management and sales working for such prestigious names as Heritage Portfolio, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Prestige Scotland at the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Heritage Hotel Group in New Zealand and Buccleuch Estates.
Edinburgh born and bred, Katy has always loved the Assembly Rooms and says: “The restoration in 2011/12 created some really exciting spaces which attract a lot of interest from corporate and event organisers, and my challenge is to make sure that everyone who comes here has a fantastic experience. This is a dream job for me and I love being part of this latest chapter in the iconic building’s history.”
Her job involves her in travelling the length and breadth of the UK, attending conferences and exhibitions, and meeting buyers and potential clients on their own turf. She is also spearheading the revamp of the Assembly Rooms Edinburgh brand, redeveloping the website and sales materials, as well as co-ordinating the many and varied events on the venue’s calendar.
When she’s not on her travels spreading the word about the stunning Assembly Rooms, Katy can be found baking delicious cakes, jogging around the beautiful capital, or playing taxi service to her seven year old daughter.
