Riddle's Court Doors of Advent Open Day
Explore Riddle’s Court, a beautiful 16th century former merchant’s house during their free Doors of Advent Open Day on 12 December, set in the heart of Old Town, Edinburgh.
Riddle’s Court is a historic jewel in Edinburgh’s Old Town and a major conservation and interpretation project led by Scottish Historic Buildings Trust. Built in the 1590s, Riddle’s Court is a picturesque Category A-listed merchant’s house full of authentic period features and genuine charm – exquisite painted and plastered ceilings, working fireplaces and panelled rooms.
It has been painstakingly repaired by skilled craftsmen without compromising the integrity of the original building.
The open day on 12 December gives visitors a unique opportunity to witness conservation in action as conservators from Scottish Wall Painting attend to Riddle’s Court’s famous painted ceiling.
To find out more about the open day, visit their Facebook event here.
Riddle’s Court can offer intimate, historic spaces as well as larger, open rooms with the potential to adapt to any event. The atmospheric Geddes and Seton rooms provide irresistible backdrops complete with elaborate ceilings, window seating booths and wood panel effect walls. The generous, bright Library room is a more open, grand space with large windows, crystal chandeliers and fully integrated AV, ideal for conferences of up to 100 people.
