Edinburgh Cup the Perfect Complement to Ladies Day at Musselburgh Racecourse

Summer party-lovers who missed out on places at a massive Ladies Day event are being offered an alternative chance to enjoy a fantastic day of racing.

Musselburgh Racecourse actually has two June highlights – and hopes its prestigious Edinburgh Cup event will grow to rival the success of its Stobo Castle Ladies Day meeting.

After tickets for the June 11 Ladies Day sold out in record time, racecourse bosses are reminding disappointed fans that they have another chance to soak up the thrill of a full race day at the Edinburgh Cup on June 4.

Sponsored by Edinburgh Gin, the race day is increasingly renowned as the biggest ‘foodie’ event in the Scottish racing calendar, where fans can also sample a wide selection of cocktails.

It will also be a day of high-quality racing, with a total prize-fund of £145,000 that attracts some of the country’s best trainers, jockeys and horses.

And the party atmosphere will also be fuelled by a guest list including BBC Radio One DJ Greg James, who will perform a set at the after racing party. Garry Spence DJ from Capital Scotland will also be on stage, while popular Edinburgh band The Flavours will be performing live.

Sarah Montgomery, Senior Operations and Commercial Manager at Musselburgh Racecourse, said: “The Edinburgh Cup is a superb event taking place just a week earlier than Ladies Day so there is no need for racing fans to be disappointed by the prospect of missing out on one event or the other.

“It’s growing in size and popularity every year and we expect it to match Ladies Day sell-out status in the next few years.

“Offering ladies and gents the chance to dress up and show off their fashionable side, it is a superb summer day out, with an excellent race card, the chance to sample a variety of cocktails and an amazing after party.

“We know that every year there are groups who miss out on Ladies Day tickets and don’t realise there is another event offering its own phenomenal take on a traditional race-day. Those who attend Edinburgh Cup tell us they love it and typically book up for the following year.

“While the vibe is a little different from Ladies Day, there is no doubt there is still a huge emphasis on having a fun day out. The fact that it is seen as a real foodies event is also getting more and more positive feedback every year.”

At next month’s Edinburgh Cup a host of fantastic food producers will be on site offering a wide mix of cuisines, often featuring local produce freshly prepared to the highest of standards.

The racecourse’s award winning catering partners, Heritage Portfolio, will provide a fine dining option, while racegoers will also be able to get their hands on the likes of Edinburgh’s famed Well-Hung and Tender burgers with Crema Caravan covering the sweets, with the UK’s first Crème Brulee van.

An extensive menu of gin cocktails especially designed by sponsors Edinburgh Gin will be a highlight of the day. Last year more than 14,000 measures of gin were sold, from Gin and Tonics, to Gimlets and Gin Cups. This year more creative cocktail options will also be available.

More than 3000 tickets have already been sold and with just three weeks to go general admission tickets are expected to break the previous record. So Musselburgh Racecourse is encouraging enthusiasts to secure tickets while they are still readily available.

Sarah Montgomery added: “We consider ourselves Edinburgh’s racecourse and we are proud of the way the Edinburgh Cup has grown to bring a real splash of colour to the Capital.

“We are also thrilled to be partnering with one of the city’s best-known drink brands for one of our biggest and busiest race days in our landmark 200th anniversary year.

The mixture of quality racing, super food, outstanding cocktails and excellent entertainment really does make this an unmissable social occasion.”

Musselburgh Racecourse is firmly established as one of the UK’s most stylish racecourses, hosting 28 flat and jumps meetings each year. Already popular with racing enthusiasts, it is also a draw for both families and corporate clients.

As part of the year-long celebration of the historic racecourse’s 200th anniversary, there will also be a special Bi-Centenary Celebration Raceday on Friday, July 8th.
