Spotlight On Marc Stalker
Born and bred in Edinburgh, Marc is currently Events and Hospitality Manager at the world’s largest indoor rock-climbing centre – the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena. The 5* EICA is home to several unique events spaces, and Marc has welcomed everything from multi-day conferences to 3000 capacity live music events in his 18 months in charge of events at the venue.
Having started working in the events industry at 16 as an Event Host at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, Marc studied Festival and Event Management at Edinburgh Napier University before moving to South Carolina, USA to work for the Hilton Group. After far too much sun and sand, Marc returned to rainy Scotland and worked for both Visit Scotland and Historic Scotland. He then moved down south to work as a Venue Manager for the London 2012 Olympic Games, which he says was “one of the most amazing experiences of my life.”
Due to the obvious stress of dealing with Olympians and celebrities, Marc returned home to Edinburgh and started working at the EICA, managing all major events within the centre. He had a key role in organising the 2013 European Youth Cup, and is looking forward to hosting the European Youth Championships this summer – the largest youth climbing event in the world.
When not organising conferences and the occasional wedding, Marc enjoys playing bass guitar in a covers band, visiting new places, and trying to play football with friends.
