Outlander fans to get ‘last drop’ of whiskies past at The Scotch Whisky Experience
The Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh is offering Outlander fans the exclusive chance to time shift into the past and experience drams from a bygone age with its new ‘Outlander whisky tasting’.
Just in time for the new series of the hit Amazon Prime show, four bottles from the now silent stills of Scotland’s so called ‘ghost distilleries’ have been cracked open to offer a tasting experience from rare and aged stocks that are diminishing by the day.
Taking place in the stunning vault containing historic World’s Largest Collection of Scotch Whisky, the tasting may be conducted only by a ‘Keeper of the Quaich’, a senior inductee into the hallowed ‘Keepers of the Quaich’ organisation. Offered for the princely sum of £485 per person, the experience is for those with deep sporrans only, but set against a combined retail price of over £4000 to purchase the bottles separately; true enthusiasts for Scotland and its whiskies may find the opportunity unmissable.
The story of Scotch whisky distilling is currently one of growth and resurgence, but past ebbs and flows in the industry have seen many distilleries closed down and dismantled for good, turning their existing whisky stock into a highly sought-after commodity. Offered into the market in small batches at regular intervals, the collectable nature of these whiskies often prevents them from ever being opened and sampled.
The whiskies featured on the Outlander whisky tasting are the following: ‘The Cally’ 40 year old, The ‘Ghosted Reserve’ blend featuring Inverleven and Ladyburn, Port Ellen, and Brora 35 year old. Each of the distilleries featured have closed their doors for the last time. The tasting is available for two to twelve people and must be booked in advance. For those looking for a more accessible introduction to Scotch whisky, The Scotch Whisky Experience has a full range of tasting experiences available daily.
